Youngone Corporation, a South Korean original design manufacturer known for its partnerships with global outdoor brands like The North Face and Nike, announced plans to build a new R&D center in Bangladesh by 2027. This facility, dedicated to weaving, printing, and design, will include seven divisions focused on various textile and design operations. The center is expected to employ 2,000 individuals, including 20 professors and 30 researchers with advanced degrees.

In conjunction with this development, Youngone will establish a university-level institution offering specialized curricula in textile and clothing design. This educational facility, slated to open by the end of next year, will celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. It aims to foster collaboration with Korean and international universities, driving technological advancements in the textile industry.

Youngone’s strategic move reinforces its commitment to Bangladesh, where it already manufactures 60% of its products. The company’s first overseas factory was set up in Bangladesh in 1980 to navigate export quotas. Over the years, Youngone has expanded its manufacturing footprint to China, Vietnam, India, Kenya, El Salvador, and Ethiopia to leverage cost advantages and diversify its production base.

Additionally, Youngone plans significant investments in a new factory in Guatemala and is exploring the establishment of production lines in Morocco, Tunisia, and Bosnia to strengthen its presence in Europe and the Americas.

Despite facing competition from low-cost Chinese manufacturers, Youngone remains focused on its ODM business model, preferring it over launching its own brand. The company also owns Scott North Asia Ltd., a domestic bike and ski equipment maker, which it acquired for 154.5 billion won between 2013 and 2014.

By expanding its research, educational, and manufacturing capabilities, Youngone aims to stay ahead in the competitive global textile market.
