Toei Animation Co. has signed a business partnership agreement with Bangkok-based Studio Porta and its Tokyo parent company Attic, the Japanese animation giant announced this week.
The collaboration aims to strengthen Toei’s digital content production capabilities by leveraging Studio Porta’s overseas operations. The three companies have worked together previously on CG-focused digital animation projects, though Toei declined to disclose specific titles or financial terms of the new arrangement.
Studio Porta, established in 2014 in Thailand, and Attic, founded in 2008, produce TV series, theatrical animations, game content, and commercials. The partnership formalizes what appears to be an incremental expansion of their existing relationship rather than a strategic overhaul.
The move aligns with Toei’s broader globalization efforts. The company, which boasts 276 theatrical films and approximately 14,000 TV episodes in its library, opened a new production facility in Osaka earlier this year and has been investing in AI-powered animation tools through a venture with Preferred Networks.
Toei already operates production facilities in the Philippines through its subsidiary Toei Animation Phils. The Thai studio partnership suggests the company is seeking to diversify its offshore production footprint across Southeast Asia, though the practical impact on Toei’s output remains unclear without specific production commitments.
