Samsung SDI Co. secured a 437.4 billion won ($275 million) contract to supply energy storage system batteries to NextEra Energy Inc., the largest power company in the United States.
The agreement, announced Thursday, represents approximately 1.93% of Samsung SDI’s recent revenue and is part of a broader contract signed last July to provide 6.3 gigawatt-hours of batteries to NextEra. The total supply volume accounts for about 11.5% of North America’s entire ESS capacity last year, valued at approximately 1 trillion won.
Samsung’s primary product for the deal is its Samsung Battery Box, a fully integrated solution housed in standardized 20-foot containers that can be immediately deployed by connecting to the power grid. The company recently showcased its SBB 1.5 model at InterBattery 2025, featuring an optimized design that increases capacity by 37% compared to previous versions.
The Korean battery maker indicated that additional ESS supply agreements with NextEra would be disclosed according to reporting standards as projects progress.
The deal highlights growing demand for energy storage solutions in the U.S. market as power companies expand renewable energy integration capabilities.
