Backlight module manufacturer Radiant Opto-Electronics has announced the acquisition of Danish company NIL Technology ApS (NILT) for approximately €284.7 million (NT$10.2 billion), marking a major step in its expansion into the meta-optical components market. This acquisition, unanimously approved by the boards of both companies, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

Radiant Opto-Electronics, traditionally focused on the display industry, aims to leverage NILT’s expertise in nano-scale optics and wafer-level optical component production to enter new high-growth sectors. NILT, founded in 2006, specializes in UV imprinting and etching technology, and operates research and production facilities in Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, and Malaysia.

The acquisition positions Radiant Opto-Electronics to offer advanced optical solutions for industries including consumer electronics, automotive, biomedical testing, and augmented reality. This follows Radiant’s 2023 acquisition of Finnish optical firm Nanocomp, further boosting its capabilities in optical design and manufacturing.

The deal reflects Radiant’s strategy to diversify its portfolio, improve its core competencies, and enter new markets with innovative optical components such as 3D sensing and AR waveguide lenses, expanding beyond its traditional display focus.
