South Korea’s internet giant Naver took center stage at the AI Safety Summit in Paris, where CEO Choi Soo-yeon outlined the company’s vision for artificial intelligence alongside tech leaders and government officials.
Speaking at the “Sustainable Future of AI” session following UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Choi highlighted Naver’s dual advantage of possessing both core AI technology and large-scale services with tens of millions of users. The company showcased its AI initiatives, including an AI Curator for webtoon recommendations and AI coloring tools for creators.
Naver is preparing to launch an AI-powered shopping app called Naver Plus Store, which claims to predict user intentions and recommend products proactively. However, specific launch dates and performance metrics remain undisclosed.
The Paris summit, in its third year following meetings in London and Seoul, gathered about 300 participants. Only two corporate leaders were invited as panelists – Naver’s Choi and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. This marks Naver’s third consecutive appearance at the summit, following Global Investment Officer Lee Hae-jin’s participation in Seoul last year.
While Naver positions itself as a key player in AI development, questions remain about its ability to compete with larger global tech firms in the AI space.
