Kolmar Korea has made a significant stride in the cosmetics industry by becoming the first company to receive the Green Technology Product Certification for its sun care products. This milestone highlights the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management through proactive research and development.

The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology awarded this certification to Kolmar Korea for its eco-friendly sunscreen. This recognition is given to technologies and products that efficiently use energy resources and significantly reduce carbon emissions. Kolmar Korea’s innovative sunscreen includes ingredients extracted using a green technology previously certified for its environmental benefits. This extraction method cuts carbon emissions by over 83% compared to traditional hot water extraction and boosts antioxidant functionality by more than 870%.

The eco-friendly sunscreen is part of the clean beauty movement, utilizing zinc oxide for UV protection. Unlike conventional sunscreens that contain organic UV filters causing coral bleaching, Kolmar Korea’s product employs a mineral-based sunscreen, making it environmentally friendly.

A representative from Kolmar Korea stated, “In light of the growing interest in sustainable and eco-friendly technologies, we are proud to be the first in the industry to receive green certification for sunscreen. We plan to extend the application of green technology to skincare and point makeup products as well.”

Kolmar Korea’s commitment to eco-friendly R&D is evident in its pioneering efforts. The company was the first globally to commercialize paper tubes and develop paper sticks. Additionally, it has replaced microplastics in cosmetics with silica, a natural mineral-derived ingredient. These initiatives demonstrate Kolmar Korea’s dedication to sustainable innovation and responsible corporate practices.
