Far EasTone Telecommunications has secured a 30-year corporate green energy contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Fengmiao Phase 1 offshore wind farm, acquiring 10% of the project’s generation capacity.
The deal represents a significant step in Far EasTone’s sustainability strategy as Taiwan’s first telecommunications provider to receive Science Based Targets initiative approval under the 1.5°C scenario. The company joined the RE100 initiative in 2023, committing to 100% renewable energy usage by 2040 and net-zero emissions by 2048.
Far EasTone President Chee Ching emphasized that the partnership strengthens the company’s renewable energy portfolio while providing a stable green power supply. The telecommunications provider plans to continue its three-pronged approach: investing in renewable energy, reducing operational carbon emissions, and promoting energy-saving applications.
The Fengmiao Phase 1 offshore wind farm, located approximately 35 kilometers off Taichung City’s coast, will feature 33 wind turbines with a total capacity of 500MW. Construction is scheduled to begin this year with completion expected by late 2027.
Far EasTone has already installed multiple solar power plants across Taiwan, including the telecommunications industry’s first agrivoltaic facility that combines power generation with agricultural production.
