Samsung SDI is set to reveal its latest electric vehicle (EV) battery technologies at the 37th Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS37), known as the “Olympics of Electric Vehicles.” This event, the largest of its kind globally, is scheduled to take place over four days at COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam district. This marks the third occasion South Korea has hosted EVS, with prior events in 2002 and 2015.

At EVS37, Samsung SDI will spotlight three key advancements: solid-state batteries, ultra-fast charging technology, and batteries with a lifespan exceeding 20 years. These innovations aim to significantly enhance the viability and appeal of electric vehicles. The solid-state batteries, which Samsung plans to mass-produce by 2027, feature an industry-leading energy density of 900 Wh/L, thanks to their anode-free design.

Another highlight is the ultra-fast charging technology, poised for introduction in 2026, which promises to charge EVs in just nine minutes. Additionally, Samsung SDI is developing batteries with a projected lifespan of over 20 years, targeting a 2029 realization.

Samsung SDI’s exhibit will also include their “heat diffusion prevention solution,” designed to mitigate heat and gas propagation in prismatic batteries during incidents. Furthermore, the showcase will feature the “46-pi” cylindrical battery model, emphasizing advancements in energy density and cost reduction. These presentations underscore Samsung SDI’s commitment to leading the charge in EV battery technology on a global scale.
