Wistron Corp. officially opened its Zhubei AI server manufacturing facility, with Chairman Lin Hsien-ming positioning artificial intelligence as a cornerstone of Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness. The electronics manufacturer, which supplies servers to Nvidia Corp., described the site as its largest global AI production center.

The facility launch comes as Wistron grapples with surging demand that has left current capacity fully utilized. General Manager Jeff Lin acknowledged the company has already leased adjacent textile factory space to accommodate overflow production, signaling immediate constraints at the newly opened plant.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, appearing via video message, praised Wistron’s manufacturing capabilities, noting the company produces 240,000 Blackwell AI computers quarterly across seven facilities. However, the congratulatory tone contrasted with the operational reality of stretched resources.

Wistron expects AI-related revenue to triple in 2025 after similar growth this year, though such aggressive projections raise questions about execution capability given current bottlenecks. The company is simultaneously investing $500 million in U.S. operations to navigate potential tariff implications, creating additional capital allocation pressures.

While Lin framed AI development in nationalist terms, emphasizing Taiwan’s technological sovereignty, the immediate challenge remains scaling production to meet order commitments. The facility’s rapid move to expand beyond its original footprint suggests initial capacity planning may have underestimated market dynamics.
