Takara Tomy reported double-digit revenue and profit growth in its fiscal first quarter, driven largely by trading card games and its latest Pokemon arcade machine.
The Japanese toy manufacturer posted revenue of ¥59.5 billion ($403.5 million) for the April-June period, an 11% increase from the previous year. Operating profit rose 10.6% to ¥4.6 billion ($31.2 million), while net income surged 35.8% to ¥3.4 billion ($23.0 million).
Trading card games delivered the strongest performance, with the Duel Masters series benefiting from collaborations with VTuber group Nijisanji and expansion of Disney Lorcana targeting adult collectors. The company’s Pokemon Frenda arcade machine, launched in July 2024, has accumulated over 100 million plays and contributed meaningfully to quarterly results.
However, challenges persist in overseas markets. US baby product sales declined due to intensifying competition, while the company’s Hong Kong production unit reduced North American shipments as trade policy uncertainty weighs on demand.
Despite the strong quarter, Takara Tomy maintained its full-year forecast, projecting revenue of ¥260 billion ($1.76 billion) but expecting operating profit to decline 11.5% to ¥22 billion ($149.3 million). The company’s Tomica brand celebrated its 55th anniversary with new product lines targeting both children and adult collectors.
The stock has gained 89% over the past year according to recent data.
