Taiwan’s Chief Telecom Posts Record Profit on AI Data Center Boost

The company plans global expansion with new computing power strategy targeting 40 countries

Chief Telecom Corp. reported its highest-ever quarterly earnings as Taiwan’s data center operator capitalized on surging demand for artificial intelligence computing infrastructure.

Net income jumped to NT$409 million ($12.8 million) in the fourth quarter, while revenue climbed to NT$1.04 billion. The company plans to distribute NT$12.5 in dividends per share, representing a 90% payout ratio.

The Taipei-based firm has seen seven consecutive years of record earnings since its 2018 listing. Its internet exchange platform TPIX has risen to 71st place globally, with 195 members using the service for data transfers.

Chief Executive Officer Liu Yao-yuan outlined a new strategy dubbed ACTIoN3, focusing on AI computing power, cloud services, and telecommunications. The company aims to expand its network to 60 cities across 40 countries, targeting key markets in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, and Europe.

Chairman Shao Hong-jia sees AI data centers and network connectivity becoming crucial infrastructure for cloud applications and digital economies. The company’s three data centers are attracting global clients including GMI and Zettabyte, while providing low-latency connections to Taiwan’s major science parks.

For full-year 2024, Chief Telecom’s revenue rose 17% to NT$3.79 billion, with net income reaching NT$1.08 billion. The company expects further growth as its cloud-computing unit ramps up operations.
