Taiwan Mobile Co. outpaced its main rival Chunghwa Telecom in November as revenue soared to a record NT$23.07 billion ($734 million), driven by strong e-commerce sales and merger benefits.
The company’s monthly earnings per share reached NT$0.43 ($0.014), surpassing Chunghwa’s NT$0.40 and marking an eight-year high for the period. Operating profit jumped 40% year-over-year to NT$2.03 billion, the highest monthly figure in 11 years.
The telecommunications provider reported that mobile service revenue grew 24% from a year earlier, boosted by the integration of Taiwan Star Telecom, which was acquired last year. Average revenue per user for smartphone subscribers increased 5%.
For the first 11 months of 2023, Taiwan Mobile’s net income rose 23% to NT$12.87 billion on revenue of NT$182.22 billion. The company’s CFO James Chang cited network coverage improvements and an expanded customer base as key drivers of growth.
The merger has reshaped Taiwan’s telecom landscape into a three-way competition, with carriers focusing on value-added services rather than price wars.
