South Korea’s Taekwang Industrial Co. announced on Monday the commencement of exports for its modacrylic yarn, a high-quality material used in synthetic wigs. Modacrylic, a polyacrylic fiber, is prized for its use in both wigs and flame-retardant applications.
With this move, Taekwang Industrial becomes the world’s second company to commercialize modacrylic, following Japan’s Kaneka. The company successfully launched its Modabon brand in 2021 and has been evaluating the market growth potential and business viability of modacrylic since the beginning of this year.
To support this expansion, Taekwang Industrial has enhanced its production facilities and improved manufacturing processes, leading to the production of export volumes beginning in March.
A company source highlighted the importance of offering a diverse range of colors to meet the unique demands of the wig market. “Considering the characteristics of the wig market, we are accelerating sales by offering a variety of colors,” the source said.
Taekwang Industrial aims to progressively increase production in response to rising sales volumes, focusing on the primary consumer markets in Africa and North America. This strategic expansion is expected to boost the company’s presence in the global market for synthetic wig materials.
