LuckyChap Entertainment and Wattpad WEBTOON Studios are adapting the hit horror webcomic “Stagtown” for the big screen, marking another move by digital publishers to monetize viral online content.

The project brings on Benjamin Brewer, who gained industry recognition as lead visual effects artist for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” to write and direct. His recent directorial work includes the Nicolas Cage-starring “Arcadian,” which premiered at SXSW 2024.

“Stagtown,” created by artist Punko, follows three characters uncovering dark secrets in a town where residents deliberately ignore mounting horrors. The webcomic has garnered over 18 million views on WEBTOON’s platform.

The adaptation joins Wattpad WEBTOON’s growing slate of screen projects, including “Lore Olympus” with The Jim Henson Company and “Death of a Pop Star” with Oscar winner Diablo Cody. The studio continues leveraging its popular digital properties for traditional media partnerships.

Jason Goldberg, Wattpad WEBTOON’s head of global film, says Brewer’s vision for the material will deliver a defining entry in the horror genre. Aron Levitz and David Madden will produce alongside the LuckyChap team.
