South Korean manufacturer Solus Advanced Materials inked a second supply agreement with Automotive Cells Company for battery foil, extending its partnership with the European EV battery producer formed by Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies.
The deal, signed March 26, reinforces Solus’s position as the only battery foil manufacturer with production facilities in Europe through its Volta Energy Solution Hungary operation. The company developed the world’s first battery foil in 1996.
The high-end foil, characterized by thin thickness and high strength, will be integrated into electric vehicle batteries produced at ACC’s European facilities. These components are critical for improving battery performance, efficiency and safety in next-generation electric vehicles.
ACC completed its first gigafactory in France last year and aims to reach 120GWh annual battery production capacity across Europe by 2030, supporting the European Union’s Green Deal and carbon reduction policies.
Solus CEO Kwak Geun-man said the continued partnership would strengthen the company’s competitiveness and expand its market presence. The deal comes as global automakers accelerate electric vehicle production amid tightening emissions regulations worldwide.
