Shinsegae Group is partnering with Paramount Global to develop a massive entertainment complex in Hwaseong City, South Korea. The project, named “Starbay City,” will feature a theme park showcasing Paramount’s popular franchises like “Mission: Impossible” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Set to open in 2029, the 11.8 million square meter development will include a theme park, water park, golf course, hotel, and residential units. Shinsegae Hwaseong, the group’s real estate subsidiary, is leading the project.
Paramount will directly participate in the theme park’s design, leveraging its extensive media portfolio to create immersive experiences. Marie Marks, head of Paramount Theme Park Entertainment, praised the site’s strategic location for domestic and international visitors.
Shinsegae Group President Lim Young-rok emphasized the unique nature of the park, promising a space where customers can bring their imaginations to life through Paramount’s diverse content.
The project aligns with South Korea’s efforts to boost tourism and is expected to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. Shinsegae aims to obtain tourism complex designation this year and development plan approval by the end of 2025.
