Sega Sammy Holdings reported second-quarter film revenue jumped 47% to ¥7.8 billion ($50 million) for the three months ended September, as the company capitalized on continued licensing income from its Sonic franchise and box office receipts from the Detective Conan theatrical release.

Operating profit in the entertainment content film segment climbed 63% to ¥3.1 billion ($20 million) during the period, according to the Tokyo-based company. The gains reflect distribution revenue from the first two Sonic films alongside proceeds from Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback, which opened in Japanese theaters in April.

The Detective Conan film became the second-highest-grossing entry in the franchise, earning ¥14.67 billion ($95 million) domestically through early September. The movie broke opening weekend records for the series with ¥3.4 billion ($22 million) across its first three days, surpassing the previous year’s Detective Conan release.

Sega Sammy’s film slate during the quarter included multiple anime properties, with releases spanning the Lupin III franchise, Dr. Stone, and various other animated titles. The company released the Detective Conan film across 522 screens, the widest distribution for any franchise entry.

The animation segment’s performance contrasts with broader challenges facing Sega Sammy’s entertainment business, where overall second-quarter results fell below expectations. The company’s recent earnings showed weaker-than-anticipated console and mobile gaming revenue, even as its animation licensing operations maintained momentum.
