Pegatron Corp. has officially opened its new smart manufacturing facility on Indonesia’s Batam Island, featuring standalone 5G network technology that integrates thousands of sensors and equipment to boost production efficiency.

The 85,000-square-meter facility leverages artificial intelligence, advanced automation, and 5G connectivity in a strategic partnership with Indonesia’s largest telecom provider Telkomsel. The factory employs over 6,000 workers and can produce 2.5 million units monthly, with consumer premises equipment (CPEs) accounting for 80% of total production and network products making up the remainder.

“This partnership has established a critical foundation for building an adaptive, interconnected, and efficient smart factory,” said Gary Cheng, Pegatron’s president and CEO. “Telkomsel’s stable 5G network and robust digital infrastructure will significantly accelerate our digital transformation in the production chain.”

Telkomsel Enterprise has deployed a standalone 5G private network at the facility and provided approximately 1,200 SIM cards to integrate Internet of Things devices for real-time machine monitoring and production control. The telecom provider allocated 50MHz of spectrum in the 2.3GHz band to support the factory’s operations.

The investment strengthens Indonesia’s position in global supply chains while creating jobs and promoting technology transfer. Pegatron currently operates in more than 13 countries, continuing to play a key role in global digital transformation by building resilient, interconnected, and innovation-driven manufacturing ecosystems.
