Mitsubishi Corp. plans to construct a pair of logistics centers near Jakarta with investments expected to exceed ¥10 billion ($64.2 million), Nikkei reported.

The Japanese trading house has acquired vacant land in two industrial parks outside the Indonesian capital, securing plots that were previously held by Japanese owners. Construction is slated to begin in May 2026, with completion targeted for May 2027.

The single-story warehouses will cover a combined 110,000 square meters of floor space and are designed to serve Indonesia’s fast-growing e-commerce and electric-vehicle industries. Mitsubishi will oversee design, construction, and tenant selection for both facilities.

The investment extends Mitsubishi’s existing footprint in Indonesia’s logistics sector. Its real estate subsidiary, MC Urban Development Indonesia, partnered with the Indonesia Investment Authority and ESR Group in 2023 to develop modern warehouse assets in the country.

Indonesia’s warehouse market remains undersupplied, with modern facilities accounting for only about 8% of total capacity. E-commerce sales in Southeast Asia’s largest economy have been expanding rapidly, creating demand for quality distribution infrastructure that older facilities struggle to meet.

The project represents a relatively modest bet for Mitsubishi, one of Japan’s largest trading houses, as it seeks to capture logistics demand from both online retailers and automakers establishing EV supply chains in the region.
