LS Marine Solution established a sales office in Ho Chi Minh City as the Korean submarine cable specialist positions itself to benefit from Southeast Asia’s infrastructure expansion. The move aligns with parent company LS Eco Energy’s discussions about building a local submarine cable factory in Vietnam, following meetings with state-owned Petro Vietnam Technical Service earlier this year.
The company already secured a five-year maintenance contract worth ₩13 billion ($9.5 million) annually for 19 submarine cable systems across the Asia-Pacific region, spanning 85,000 kilometers. The new Vietnam presence supports broader regional ambitions as PTSC plans major projects transmitting renewable energy from Vietnam’s offshore wind farms to Singapore via submarine cables.
LS Marine Solution’s expansion comes as it builds the largest cable-laying vessel in Asia. The 13,000-ton capacity ship, under construction at Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard, will rank among the world’s top five globally and begin operations in 2028. The company is investing ₩345.8 billion ($252 million) in the project to secure more high-voltage direct current and offshore wind contracts.
Vietnam represents a critical market as the country rapidly emerges as Southeast Asia’s renewable energy hub, where submarine cables serve as key infrastructure for expanding the supply chain. The Seoul-based firm joins major competitors in establishing regional footholds to capture growing demand for underwater power and communication networks linking Asia’s energy transition projects.
