South Korea’s LG Uplus Corp. has unveiled plans to collaborate with SAMG Entertainment and HighZium Studio Co. on a pioneering Korean-style robot drama, aiming for a global OTT release in 2026. This joint venture, featuring a live-action project tentatively titled “K-TRON,” marks a significant effort to bring Korean robot narratives to a worldwide audience.
The collaboration involves establishing a special-purpose company (SPC) that will harness the unique strengths of each partner. LG Uplus will leverage its content-specialized STUDIO X+U for joint planning and production, while also overseeing investment and distribution. SAMG Entertainment, known for its successful IP ventures like “Catch! Teenieping,” “Miniforce,” and “Metal Cardbot,” will contribute its extensive IP business acumen. HighZium Studio, recognized for hits such as “Itaewon Class” and “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” will offer its strategic production expertise.
The consortium aims to capitalize on the global appeal of robot IP by integrating their accumulated knowledge across various entertainment sectors. The project reflects the longstanding aspiration of the Korean entertainment industry to create a live-action robot series that resonates with international audiences.
With “K-TRON,” the partners are poised to create a new benchmark in the global OTT space, combining innovative storytelling with advanced production techniques. As they prepare for the 2026 release, the collaboration is expected to generate significant anticipation and redefine the genre on a global scale.
