LG Electronics is set to enhance its collaboration with Qualcomm, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The long-standing partnership between the two tech giants, dating back to LG’s mobile business days, is poised to enter a new phase.
On July 11, LG Electronics CEO Cho Ju-wan will host Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon at LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul. Industry insiders anticipate that the meeting will primarily focus on the development of on-device AI technology. This comes after LG recently established a dedicated organization under its Chief Technology Officer to spearhead its on-device AI strategy.
The collaboration between LG and Qualcomm extends across multiple product lines. In 2022, LG’s tablet PCs featured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 application processor, and the company’s Tone Free wireless earphones utilized Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive acoustic solution. In the automotive sector, Qualcomm has been a key supplier for LG’s Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Division, providing essential chips for telematics and infotainment systems.
The meeting will likely also cover broader AI opportunities, reflecting Qualcomm’s ongoing engagements with other major Korean tech companies. Recently, Samsung Electronics’ Chairman Lee Jae-yong met Amon in the U.S., discussing next-generation semiconductors, including AI chips.
This strategic discussion between LG and Qualcomm underscores their commitment to advancing AI capabilities, potentially leading to significant innovations in consumer electronics and automotive technologies.
