South Korean gaming giant Krafton unveiled three open-source artificial intelligence models designed for mathematical problem-solving and code generation tasks, marking the company’s latest venture into AI development. The models, dubbed “KORani,” are now available on Hugging Face’s global platform following a collaboration with telecommunications leader SK Telecom.
The lightweight models feature what Krafton calls “answer review learning,” a proprietary technique that improves performance by analyzing incorrect responses during training. One model showed improved performance on AIME 25, a recognized benchmark for mathematical reasoning capabilities.
SK Telecom handled infrastructure development and data validation while Krafton focused on training methodologies. The telecom company’s expertise ensured model stability and quality throughout the development process.
Krafton plans to integrate these AI capabilities into gaming-specific applications, including gameplay analysis and strategic decision-making systems. The PUBG creator sees the release as confirmation of its ability to develop large-scale language models at a global level.
Both companies participate in South Korea’s government-sponsored “Independent AI Foundation Model” project, with SK Telecom leading a consortium that includes Krafton among 10 teams under evaluation. The partnership represents Korea’s broader push toward AI sovereignty and technological independence.
The open-source release comes as Krafton expands its AI initiatives beyond gaming, though the company maintains its core focus remains on enhancing game development and player experiences through artificial intelligence technologies.
