Solus Advanced Materials has started mass production at its second Hungarian facility, strengthening its position as Europe’s sole manufacturer of copper foil for electric vehicle batteries.
The South Korean supplier’s new plant adds 23,000 tons of annual capacity, bringing its total European output to 38,000 tons. The expansion marks a critical development in Europe’s EV supply chain, where manufacturers are racing to secure essential battery components.
The company’s aggressive growth strategy includes plans for a third Hungarian facility, which would push its European production capacity to 100,000 tons. This expansion comes as European automakers accelerate their transition to electric vehicles, driven by stringent environmental regulations and growing consumer demand.
Beyond Europe, Solus is establishing a foothold in North America with its first Canadian plant. The facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2026, will initially produce 25,000 tons annually, with plans to scale up to 63,000 tons.
The copper foil market is particularly crucial for EV manufacturers as the material is a key component in lithium-ion batteries, affecting both performance and cost of electric vehicles.
