Kolmar Korea, a renowned supplier to global cosmetics brands such as Estee Lauder, has unveiled a groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) technology capable of diagnosing 16 types of androgenic alopecia, a common genetically predisposed hair disorder. This innovation represents a significant advancement in personalized hair care solutions.

The AI technology can accurately identify nine male and seven female types of androgenic alopecia by analyzing biomarkers (DNA) found on the scalp surface. The diagnostic process involves a cosmetics researcher scraping the consumer’s scalp to collect biomarkers, which are then placed in an analysis device. A connected computer program evaluates the presence and specific type of alopecia.

Kolmar Korea’s breakthrough will enable the development of highly customized cosmetics tailored to the 16 identified types of androgenic alopecia. “About 700 genetic mutations occur for each type of androgenic alopecia,” a company source revealed. “We plan to recommend over 10,000 customized cosmetics based on the types of genetic mutations.”

This innovative approach promises to revolutionize the treatment of androgenic alopecia, offering targeted and effective solutions to consumers. Kolmar Korea plans to collaborate with its client companies to bring these personalized hair care products to market, enhancing their offerings and providing bespoke solutions to address this widespread condition.
