KG Mobility has launched South Korea’s first domestically produced electric pickup truck, the Musso EV, at a ceremony held at its Pyeongtaek headquarters.
The vehicle combines an electric SUV with a cargo bed capable of carrying up to 500 kg and offers a 400 km driving range on a single charge. Equipped with a BYD LFP blade battery with 80.6 kWh capacity, the Musso EV can reach 80% charge in 24 minutes.
KG Mobility chairman Kwak Jae-sun indicated the new vehicle represents a significant milestone since he assumed leadership in September 2022. The company, which controlled 94.8% of South Korea’s pickup market last year, positioned the Musso EV as a direct competitor to Kia’s Tasman.
The automaker emphasized the economic advantages of its new offering, projecting savings of 14 million won ($10,450) over five years compared to competitors. Additional benefits include tax reductions and highway toll discounts.
Available in MX and Black Edge trims priced at 48 million won ($35,800) and 50.5 million won ($37,700) respectively, government subsidies could reduce the actual purchase price in Seoul to approximately 39 million won ($29,100).
KG Mobility has established a monthly sales target of 500 units for the Musso EV, which revives a brand previously associated with SsangYong’s SUV lineup.
