Mandarake Holdings Inc., Japan’s largest anime and manga collectibles retailer, extended its sales growth streak to 30 consecutive months, as September revenue climbed 9% to ¥1.2 billion ($8 million) across all stores.
The Tokyo-based company surpassed its fiscal year sales forecast of ¥13.5 billion ahead of schedule, with total revenue reaching ¥14.5 billion in the first eleven months, representing a 12.5% increase from the previous year.
Existing store sales rose 5.4% to ¥1.17 billion, boosted by strong performance at the company’s auction business and Grand Chaos location, which gained ¥16 million and ¥12 million respectively. The expansion into Kyoto last October has contributed to the overall growth momentum.
While the company benefits from Japan’s increasing popularity of anime and manga merchandise globally, its reliance on physical retail locations and auctions could pose risks as more collectors shift to digital platforms. The sustainability of its growth trajectory remains to be tested as competition in the secondary market for collectibles intensifies.
