IMAGICA GROUP tumbled into the red for the first nine months of fiscal 2024, posting a net loss of 242 million yen ($1.6 million) compared to a profit of 1.43 billion yen a year earlier. The Japanese media services provider saw its revenue drop 6.9% to 66.54 billion yen.
The Tokyo-based company announced its withdrawal from the struggling TV post-production business and initiated a voluntary retirement program. While anime production and 3D computer graphics for games showed strength, the company’s core post-production services deteriorated alongside a sharp decline in subtitle and dubbing orders.
Operating profit plunged 78.1% to 488 million yen, reflecting the broader challenges in Japan’s media services sector. For the full year ending March 2025, IMAGICA forecasts a net loss of 900 million yen, reversing the previous year’s profit of 2.37 billion yen.
The company expects annual sales to decline 3.7% to 96 billion yen, with operating profit projected to fall 69.4% to 1.2 billion yen. The gloomy outlook reflects ongoing pressure on traditional media services as the industry undergoes digital transformation.
