Hyundai Mobis revealed a new sound system with movable speakers that sync with its rollable display, marking the supplier’s latest push into premium car technology. The system adjusts speaker angles based on driving modes and display positions.
The setup complements the company’s 30-inch rollable cockpit display introduced two years ago. When vehicles are stationary or in autonomous mode, the display extends fully while speakers tilt toward the windshield to minimize sound interference. During regular driving, the screen contracts to one-third size and speakers reorient toward the driver.
The South Korean parts maker aims to compete with established luxury audio brands through its partnership with British sound specialist Meridian. The company also showcased a holographic windshield display at CES this year, adding to its portfolio of premium cockpit technologies.
While Hyundai Mobis touts these innovations as transformative for in-car entertainment, industry experts note the company faces tough competition from well-established premium audio suppliers like Harman, Bose, and Bang & Olufsen in the luxury vehicle segment.
The head of HMI Development Group at Hyundai Mobis suggests these technologies target global automakers, though winning contracts against entrenched suppliers could prove challenging.
