Hyosung Heavy Industries secured an 85 billion won ($60.8 million) contract to supply ultra-high voltage transformers to Scottish Power, the South Korean manufacturer announced Monday.
The 400-kilovolt transformers will transfer power generated from Scotland’s onshore and offshore wind farms to urban centers, supporting the region’s push toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.
This agreement strengthens Hyosung’s foothold in Europe’s power equipment market, where it has held the largest market share in the UK’s ultra-high voltage transformer sector since 2022. The company first entered the Scottish market in 2015 and has developed into a comprehensive solution provider for product supply and maintenance over the past decade.
The deal adds to Hyosung’s growing portfolio of European contracts, following breakthrough agreements with transmission companies in Germany and France. The Korean industrial giant has been expanding its global presence, with orders worth approximately 10 trillion won recorded in the first quarter of 2025 across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania.
To meet increasing global demand, Hyosung is expanding its ultra-high voltage transformer factory in Memphis, with plans to double production capacity.
