HD Hyundai Infracore Co. formed a partnership with US-based Amogy Inc. and SK Innovation Co. to develop power generation systems running on clean ammonia and hydrogen, expanding its footprint in the alternative energy sector.

The South Korean engine manufacturer plans to develop a 22-liter hydrogen engine for power generation as part of the collaboration. Amogy will contribute by creating ammonia cracker equipment that breaks down ammonia into hydrogen, while SK Innovation will help explore commercial applications.

The timeline for bringing a hydrogen engine power generation system to market is set for 2027, according to company statements. This move aligns with South Korea’s broader push toward clean energy solutions and hydrogen technology development.

The partnership marks HD Hyundai’s latest effort to diversify beyond its traditional diesel engine business as global environmental regulations tighten. The company is betting on ammonia as a more efficient carrier of hydrogen, which has been challenging to transport and store.

Financial terms of the partnership weren’t disclosed.
