Happinet reported operating profit jumped 33.5% to ¥8.71 billion ($56.3 million) for the six months ended September, as the Japanese entertainment distributor capitalized on Nintendo’s Switch 2 console launch in June.
Net income climbed 52.1% to ¥6.67 billion, while revenue increased 16.5% to ¥196.4 billion during the period. The company’s video game segment posted the strongest performance, with profit soaring 458% to ¥1.11 billion as sales rose 34% to ¥48.8 billion.
The distributor benefited from selling Switch 2 hardware and accessories following the console’s June release, along with related software including Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. Bandai Namco Holdings, which owns a controlling stake in Happinet, saw similar gains from Nintendo-related merchandise.
The company’s amusement division, which operates capsule toy vending machines under the Gashacoco brand, recorded profit growth of 64.6% to ¥2.81 billion. The segment expanded to 143 locations by September.
However, the video and music business saw profit decline 41.8% to ¥434 million despite revenue growth, as losses from foreign film investments offset gains from domestic music releases including Mrs. Green Apple’s album.
Happinet maintained its full-year forecast of ¥118 billion in operating profit, representing modest 1% growth. The company has already achieved 73.8% of that target at the half-year mark.
