Hanwha Aerospace has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with WB Group, Poland’s largest private defense contractor, to explore local production of guided missiles for the Cheonmu rocket artillery system. The announcement was made at MSPO 2024, the international defense exhibition in Kielce, Poland.
The partnership focuses on producing the CGR-80 missile, which has a range of 80 kilometers, for the Homar-K, Poland’s variant of the Cheonmu system. WB Group currently provides key fire control and communication systems for the Homar-K, reinforcing its role in the project.
Hanwha Aerospace sees Poland as a strategic hub for expanding into the NATO arms market. With defense spending in the European Union on the rise, the company aims to capitalize on increased demand for locally produced weapons systems. The firm has already signed contracts to supply Poland with 290 Cheonmu launchers and guided missiles.
Through this localization strategy, Hanwha Aerospace is positioning itself to meet European security needs and solidify its status as a global defense player, while strengthening ties between South Korea and Poland.
