Hanwha Aerospace is strengthening its defense cooperation with Norway, hosting an industry day in Oslo that brought together over 30 Norwegian defense companies and key players including Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and Nammo.
The February 26 event highlighted the company’s Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launch System as a potential new area for collaboration, building on existing partnerships that began in 2017 with Norway’s purchase of K9 self-propelled howitzers in a deal worth approximately $2.4 billion.
“Norway is one of our key partners in Europe,” said Chae Hoon, head of Hanwha’s PGM Division, noting the company’s intention to explore opportunities that enhance bilateral defense capabilities.
The Chunmoo system, co-developed with South Korea’s Agency for Defense Development, offers long-range precision fire capabilities with advantages in delivery timelines and cost-effectiveness. Its versatile design allows integration with vehicles and launchers from other countries, as demonstrated by Poland’s “HOMAR-K” configuration.
Hanwha’s relationship with Norwegian defense contractor Kongsberg has already expanded through memorandums of understanding signed in 2022 and 2024. These agreements enable integration of Kongsberg’s combat solutions and weapon systems across various Hanwha platforms.
The South Korean company recently fulfilled an additional contract to deliver four K9 howitzers and eight K10 ammunition resupply vehicles to the Norwegian Armed Forces earlier this month, reinforcing the growing defense industrial partnership between the two countries.
