Hanon Systems, Korean auto parts maker,  is expanding its North American footprint with a new manufacturing facility in Woodbridge, Ontario, marking its first electric compressor production site in the region. The Korean automotive supplier plans to begin operations in the first half of 2025.

The 284,200-square-foot facility represents Hanon’s push to capitalize on growing demand for electric vehicle components in North America. While the company didn’t disclose the investment amount, it joins existing compressor plants in Korea, China, and Portugal.

The plant’s annual production capacity of 900,000 electric compressors signals Hanon’s bet on rapid EV adoption, though actual output will depend on customer demand. The company plans to hire 300 workers at the site.

Ontario’s Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli cited the investment as evidence of the province’s growing role in EV manufacturing. The location provides proximity to major automakers and Hanon’s innovation center in Novi, Michigan.

The announcement builds on Hanon’s 35-year presence in Canada, where it operates a plant in Belleville producing fluid transport products and HVAC modules.
