Hanjin Transportation Co., a leading South Korean logistics firm, has launched a joint venture with China’s AWOT Global Corporation to enhance e-commerce logistics services for Chinese retailers. The new entity, Hanjin Global Express Shenzhen, is part of Hanjin’s effort to expand its global footprint, as the domestic logistics market becomes increasingly competitive.
The partnership will see AWOT handling air freight for parcels from Chinese online retailers to South Korea and Japan, while Hanjin will oversee customs clearance and transportation using its facilities at Incheon International Airport. This collaboration targets the growing demand for cross-border logistics, driven by the rapid rise of Chinese e-commerce platforms like AliExpress, Temu, and Shein.
Hanjin aims to secure major contracts by offering end-to-end logistics solutions, including fulfillment, air transport, and customs services. The company also plans to extend its services to Southeast Asia and the US in the medium term.
The joint venture is a strategic move as Hanjin seeks to catch up with rivals CJ Logistics Corp. and Coupang Logistics. With global sales revenue rising 54% in the first half of 2023, the company is sharpening its focus on the growing international e-commerce market.
