gumi Inc. returned to profitability in its fiscal third quarter after restructuring its mobile gaming business and expanding its blockchain operations.
The Tokyo-based entertainment company reported a net profit of ¥1.51 billion ($10.2 million) for the nine months ended January 2025, compared with a loss of ¥1.1 billion a year earlier. Revenue fell 14.6% to ¥7.41 billion ($50.1 million), as the company ended several game titles and transferred joint operations of its “Nogi-Fla” game to Appirits Co.
gumi’s mobile game segment saw revenue plunge 31.5% year-on-year, though losses narrowed significantly after the company cut development costs and advertising expenses. Meanwhile, its blockchain business revenue surged 257% to ¥1.81 billion ($12.2 million), driven by blockchain games and its “OSHI3” fan platform.
The company reported crypto asset evaluation gains of ¥848 million, along with ¥433 million in cryptocurrency sales profits. Gumi also recorded a ¥366 million gain from selling its entire stake in subsidiary Ateam.
Quarterly revenue for the three months ended January fell to its lowest level since the company’s listing at ¥1.91 billion, though operating profit remained positive for the third consecutive quarter.
gumi has withheld its full-year guidance, citing rapidly changing market conditions in both its gaming and blockchain businesses.
