Global Unichip Corp. expects first-quarter revenue to surge more than 150% from the previous quarter, riding a wave of artificial intelligence chip demand and advanced packaging services.
The Taiwan-based chip design service provider reported fourth-quarter revenue of NT$2.95 billion (US$93.2 million), up 5% from a year earlier. Net income fell to NT$240 million, with earnings per share of NT$0.91.
For the full year 2024, revenue declined 8% to NT$11.06 billion, while net profit reached NT$1.04 billion. The company’s intellectual property and design service segments both achieved record highs for the fourth consecutive year, despite overall revenue being dragged down by an 18% drop in production sales due to inventory adjustments.
Chief Executive Officer KC Wang said 2025 first-half revenue could match the full-year 2024 figure. The company has expanded beyond its traditional IP focus into six core businesses, including advanced process nodes and 2.5D/3D packaging integration.
Global Unichip’s push into advanced packaging technologies has gained traction after a flagship project entered mass production. The company now offers clients a one-stop platform for supply chain integration and procurement services.
The transformation comes as the semiconductor industry adapts to growing demand for AI chips, which require more sophisticated packaging solutions to handle increased computing power and energy efficiency requirements.
Fourth-quarter gross margin fell 3.6 percentage points to 42.8% due to changes in product mix, while full-year margin improved to 45.7%.
