geechs Inc. reported a surge in quarterly profit as strong domestic IT staffing demand offset mounting losses in its Australian operations. The Tokyo-based recruiter saw its operating profit jump 84% to ¥193 million ($1.3 million) in the six months through September.
The company’s mainstay domestic IT staffing business posted record sales of ¥7.4 billion ($49.3 million), up 7.6% year-on-year, driven by rising contract prices amid persistent talent shortages. Management cited success in reducing advertising costs while expanding internal training programs.
However, the Australian division, focused on temporary staffing in Sydney and Melbourne, saw losses widen to ¥94 million from ¥26 million a year earlier. The company is overhauling its overseas operations and hiring more recruiters to stem the decline.
The smaller Seed Tech unit returned to profitability, generating ¥3 million in earnings on increased demand for offshore development and IT training services in the Philippines.
Geeks Inc. maintained its full-year forecast, projecting net income of ¥336 million for fiscal 2025, compared with a ¥1.47 billion loss last year when it divested its G2 Studios unit.
