FURYU Corp. will establish a new wholly-owned subsidiary focused exclusively on anime production as the Japanese entertainment company seeks to sharpen its competitive edge in the growing animation market.

The Tokyo-based firm will launch FURYU Pictures on June 20, transferring its entire animation business to the new entity with an initial capital of ¥25 million ($163,000). The strategic reorganization aims to improve management efficiency and content quality by consolidating anime operations under dedicated leadership.

FURYU’s animation business generated sales of ¥933 million ($6.1 million) for the fiscal year ended March 2024. The company has built its reputation as lead production committee member for popular series including “Yuru Camp” and “SHOW BY ROCK!!”

The move comes as FURYU pivots toward strengthening its entertainment content portfolio following earlier challenges in its gaming division. In 2018, the company temporarily halted smartphone game development due to underperformance, signaling a strategic shift toward its more profitable animation and merchandise businesses.

FURYU, which originated as an Omron subsidiary in 1997, has evolved from photo sticker machines to diversified entertainment offerings. The company went independent through management buyout in 2007 and expanded its animation operations following the 2012 acquisition of production company Weave.
