Foxconn’s subsidiary Fushan Technology has applied for permits to significantly expand its manufacturing operations in northern Vietnam, according to documents filed with local environmental authorities and reviewed by Reuters.

The Taiwanese contract manufacturer plans to boost annual smartphone output by 30 million units to 140 million and begin producing up to 4.8 million Microsoft Xbox gaming consoles at its Bac Ninh province facility. The expansion also covers charging accessories for smart rings and capacity for 100,000 drones annually.

The project, valued at approximately VND8.35 trillion ($316 million), builds on Foxconn’s existing $3.2 billion investment in Vietnam accumulated since the company entered the country in the 2000s. The Fushan facility previously manufactured Nokia and Microsoft mobile devices before changing hands.

Factory upgrades are underway with full operations targeted for April 2026, according to the filing. Foxconn declined to comment on individual sites, while Fushan Technology Vietnam did not respond to inquiries.

The expansion reflects broader industry efforts to diversify manufacturing beyond China as supply chain concerns persist. Rival Luxshare is also seeking to expand its Bac Ninh operations, underscoring Vietnam’s growing importance in global electronics assembly despite questions about whether the region can absorb such rapid industrial growth.
