Foxconn Technology Group is expanding its smart city initiatives across Taiwan while developing humanoid robots in partnership with NVIDIA, marking the company’s latest push into artificial intelligence services.
Chairman Young Liu said the company will roll out urban applications in Kaohsiung, Keelung, and Taipei this year, focusing first on consumer-facing mobile apps before launching a broader development platform. The strategy aims to integrate various city services and data streams that currently operate in isolation.
The iPhone assembler is leveraging generative AI to build what it calls CityGPT, a platform it hopes to eventually export globally. Liu noted that the system could drive demand for sovereign AI hardware and services, creating new revenue opportunities for Foxconn’s computing centers.
The initiative comes as Foxconn targets record revenue of NT$7 trillion ($223 billion) in 2024. The company is working with NVIDIA to develop service-oriented humanoid robots in Kaohsiung using the chip maker’s latest software and hardware platforms.
Liu indicated that successful smart city deployments in Taiwan could serve as a model for international expansion, with Foxconn aiming to provide integrated solutions to municipalities worldwide. The chairman also predicted rising demand for locally manufactured sovereign servers as countries prioritize domestic production.
