Japanese mobile game developer enish reported narrower losses for 2024 as aggressive cost-cutting measures helped counter declining revenue from its aging game portfolio.
The Tokyo-based company posted a net loss of ¥882 million ($5.9 million) for the year ended December, compared with a ¥1.37 billion loss a year earlier. Revenue fell 5.4% to ¥3.32 billion.
The company took a ¥13 million impairment charge on fixed assets and booked ¥2 million in special retirement benefits as part of its restructuring efforts. Management focused on optimizing the cost structure through headcount reductions and cuts to outsourcing expenses.
Two of enish’s longest-running titles – “Boku no Restaurant 2” and “Galsho” – remained key revenue drivers despite entering their 14th year of operation. The company’s “Attack on Titan Brave Order” game attempted to capitalize on the release of the anime’s final movie in November through special events and voice actor promotions.
The developer faces a ¥176 million lawsuit from HashPalette seeking return of alleged unfair profits. Enish said it will examine the claims and respond appropriately.
The company declined to provide guidance for 2025, citing difficulty in making reliable forecasts amid rapid changes in the mobile gaming industry. Management will focus on user retention through targeted campaigns and collaboration events while continuing to optimize operations.
