Doosan Enerbility has secured an 890 billion won ($652 million) contract to build a gas-fired power plant in Saudi Arabia, further strengthening its position in the Middle East energy market.
The South Korean company will handle design, equipment supply, and integrated commissioning for the Power Plant 12 (PP12) project in partnership with engineering firm SEPCO III, according to a statement Thursday. The 1,800-megawatt facility will be located about 150 kilometers northwest of Riyadh and is scheduled for completion by 2028.
Saudi Electricity Company is developing the project to address rapidly growing power demands in the kingdom.
The deal marks Doosan’s fourth power plant contract in the Middle East this year, following projects in Qatar and two other Saudi facilities announced earlier this week. Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan’s Plant EPC business group, noted that Saudi Arabia plans to add approximately 6 gigawatts of power generation capacity annually over the next five years.
Doosan has secured about 6.7 trillion won in Saudi contracts over the past five years, including the Jafurah cogeneration plant, Tuwairqi forging factory, and desalination facilities in Yanbu and Shuaiba.
