Doosan Enerbility secured contracts worth 340 billion won ($249 million) to supply steam turbines and generators for two Saudi Arabian power plants, extending the Korean manufacturer’s aggressive push into the Kingdom’s expanding energy sector.
The company will provide equipment for the Ghazlan 2 Expansion Power Plant and Hajjar Expansion Power Plant, both located approximately 400 kilometers northeast of Riyadh. Each facility will have a capacity of 2,900 megawatts and construction is scheduled for completion by 2028.
The contracts were signed with joint ventures led by Spain’s Técnicas Reunidas and Egypt’s Orascom Construction, positioning Doosan as a key supplier in projects that will significantly boost Saudi Arabia’s power generation capabilities.
Doosan Enerbility has captured 33.1% market share of ultra-large steam turbines for combined cycle power plants ordered globally over the past five years, making it the world’s leading supplier in this segment. The company has won orders for nine such turbines in Saudi Arabia alone since last year.
The latest deals underscore Doosan’s deepening ties with Saudi Arabia as the Kingdom pursues Vision 2030 goals to diversify its economy. The Korean conglomerate has secured approximately 6.7 trillion won worth of projects in Saudi Arabia over the past five years, including recent contracts for the PP12 plant and fuel conversion projects.
Saudi Arabia plans to add substantial power generation capacity to meet growing industrial and residential demand as economic diversification efforts accelerate under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s reform agenda.
