CyberAgent America and X Corp. Japan have formed a strategic marketing alliance to accelerate the global expansion of Japanese anime, targeting the platform’s 550 million monthly users worldwide, including 68 million in Japan.

The partnership will develop anime-specific features for the X platform, including character-themed emojis and specialized timelines that display only anime-related posts. Both companies will collaborate on creating localized video content highlighting production staff and voice actors to deepen audience engagement.

The alliance reflects a calculated bet on anime’s growing international appeal. CyberAgent has been steadily increasing its animation investments since 2016, when its gaming subsidiary Cygames established an anime production division. The company later created the CA-Cygames Anime Fund in 2017 to invest in anime production committees and secure streaming and game adaptation rights.

A key focus will be monetization strategies that maintain brand integrity while boosting revenue. This includes promoting merchandise sales, event tickets, and video content through X’s platform capabilities. The companies may also explore integrating X’s AI chatbot Grok into their initiatives.

The move comes as CyberAgent works to diversify beyond digital advertising before CEO Susumu Fujita’s planned 2026 retirement. The company recently acquired game developer Nitroplus for ¥16.7 billion ($103 million) as part of this strategy.
