Japanese mobile game developer Coly posted a sharply narrower loss in its fiscal third quarter as fee-cutting initiatives and stronger game revenues combined to improve margins.
The Tokyo-based company reported revenue of ¥4.9 billion ($31.6 million) for the nine months through October, up 13.9 percent year over year. Net losses shrank to ¥148 million from ¥626 million a year earlier.
Coly attributed much of the improvement to its “coly ID” system, which reduced platform commission fees faster than anticipated. The initiative allows the company to process transactions outside traditional app store channels and retain a larger share of in-game purchases.
Break My Case, released in May 2024, delivered record sales during its first anniversary event and continued performing well through subsequent seasonal campaigns. The company’s flagship title Promise of Wizard maintained stable user engagement following a TV anime broadcast earlier this year, while Stand My Heroes marked its ninth anniversary.
The media segment benefited from merchandise sales and stage adaptations across multiple properties.
Coly declined to issue full-year guidance, citing a planned game launch that has now been pushed to the following fiscal year. The company also pointed to volatile competitive conditions in the mobile gaming market as making revenue projections difficult.
Coly continues development work on a project with Walt Disney Japan, though provided no timeline for release.
