China Airlines will hold its 2025 annual shareholders meeting on May 28, where it plans to elect two new directors to its board. The Taiwan-based carrier has announced nominations from two key stakeholders that oversee the government-backed airline.
The Civil Aviation Development Foundation, China Airlines’ largest shareholder, has nominated its own director and secretary-general Hsieh Wei-Cheng. The National Development Council, a cabinet-level agency under Taiwan’s Executive Yuan, has put forward Hsiung Cheng-i, a professor at Tainan University of Science and Technology.
Hsieh, a Soochow University law graduate, currently serves on several transportation-related boards, including Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taoyuan Airport Services. Hsiung holds a doctoral degree in transportation management from National Cheng Kung University and currently serves as an independent director at Yang Ming Marine Transport while teaching international business management.
The nominations come during a transitional period for the carrier, which recently lost its chairman Hsieh Shih-chien, who passed away in January after leading the airline to record earnings of NT$20.38 billion (US$618.9 million) last year. China Airlines has been making significant fleet investments, including a recent US$11.9 billion order split between Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
