Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Catcher Technology Co. is strengthening its healthcare ambitions through its biomedical unit’s acquisition of Smart Medicine’s contract development and manufacturing operations.
The deal gives Catcher access to Smart Medicine’s neuromodulation technology and process capabilities, along with existing customer relationships and patent certifications in the implantable devices segment. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The acquisition marks another step in Catcher’s strategic pivot that began in 2020, as the company seeks to reduce its reliance on consumer electronics manufacturing. Known for supplying metal casings to major tech brands, Catcher aims to apply its materials science and precision manufacturing expertise to the medical sector.
Smart Medicine has built its reputation in neuromodulation research and development, attracting international customers with its implantable device capabilities. The integration is expected to accelerate Catcher’s expansion in the high-end medical materials space.
Catcher indicated it will pursue additional investments and acquisitions to build out its healthcare supply chain ecosystem, targeting leadership in the contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) space. The company’s transformation comes as traditional electronics manufacturers face increasing pressure to diversify their revenue streams.
