Casio Computer will launch its Moflin AI-powered robot pet in the United States and United Kingdom starting October 1, pricing the device at $429 in the US and £369 in the UK, Nikkei reported.
The palm-sized furry robot, which sold approximately 10,000 units in Japan through May 2025, represents Casio’s attempt to diversify beyond its traditional electronics business as revenue continues declining. The company’s annual sales have dropped to $1.9 billion in 2024 from a peak of $5.5 billion in 2008.
Casio targets selling 7,000 Moflin units across both Western markets by March 2026, with global sales projected to reach $34 million over the next three to five years. The robot, originally priced at ¥59,400 ($400) in Japan, uses artificial intelligence to develop what Casio claims are unique personalities based on user interactions.
The device enters a crowded market where previous AI companions, including Sony’s Aibo robot dog, have struggled to achieve mainstream adoption despite decades of development. While the global AI emotion analytics market is forecast to expand from $8 billion to $28 billion by 2032, questions remain about consumer willingness to spend hundreds of dollars on digital companionship.
The Moflin requires charging every five hours and comes with a companion smartphone app for monitoring its emotional states.
